Forward Foreign Exchange

Benefits of Foreign Exchange Forwards

It is a contract to buy or sell a precise amount of a foreign currency at an agreed price. This transaction will be paid or settled at a specific date in the future, or, and again this has to be clearly defined, within a period of time in the future.

The foreign exchange markets will have two types of forex transactions: Closed forwards and Open forwards.
Closed : The agreement to buy or sell at a predefined price has to be settled at a specific date.
Open : This means that the settlement of this agreement has a specific end date, but within that period of time all or part of the contract can be paid for - the only consideration is that the full amount has to be canceled by its end date.

Currencies fluctuate in price just like other commodities. These price fluctuations are dependent on a large number of factors such as interest rates, supply and demand, economic policies, and many other factors.

FX forwards aid investors, import - export companies or financial institutions for example, control the dangers of a fluctuation in currency prices that are a natural part of the currency markets.

The three main advantages of an FX forward contract are:

1. It helps to save guard the cost of imports. As the exchange rate is fixed for the future, currency fluctuations will not affect the price. At the same time the importer will not have to either pre-pay or finance his future import.

2. The effect of this is that profit margins will be save guarded for those items, product or services, being imported.

3. Time flexibility. The forward periods that can be contracted are up to a year.

Currency Speculation vs Currency Risk Management

When we are speaking about currency trading, we are talking about professionally managed currency trades with the purpose of trading a good or service. Many business owners frequently do business in the currency spot market. You have currency options, currency swaps and the Big Kahoona: The forward currency contract.

The forward currency contract is a way of guaranteeing that you can buy or sell currency at a contracted rate in some time in the future. With a "forward", you base that future price on market conditions, usually tied to interest rates. When you have a forward currency contract, you have an agreement between you and your currency trader or bank that guarantees you will be paid the price contracted to. There are a number of different kinds of forward currency contracts as well.

Professional currency trading is about removing the emotion from the transaction. Forward Currency Contracts are the smart play for those business owners who know how to manage currency risk.

Steps for Simulated Forex Trading

Fortunately, forex is also one of the easiest markets to practice trading strategies without risking a dime. There are 3 tips for finding a way to test your strategies before risking any real money. Simulated forex trading can be so easy that you may be surprised.

#1. You should first do simulated forex trading using historical data. This is known as back testing. You will need to use this into your back testing software in order to run your tests.

#2. Almost all forex brokers allow you to set up a demo account and trade with "play money." This is fantastic because it is live simulated forex trading.

#3. All the testing in the world is worthless until real money is on the line.

You can open an account for as little as $25 and trade for pennies until you get comfortable with trading real money. There are so many more ways that the at-home trader can test trading strategies in the forex market than in other financial market.

You Can Do Simulated Forex Trading

What if you could do an unlimited amount of practice trading using the same systems that people who trade for a living use? First, there is demo trading. This type of simulated Forex trading is very important because it allows you to try a trading platform and experiment with entering different kinds of orders before you risk any real money.

The second type of simulated Forex trading is call backtesting. You can purchase software that will allow you to go through actual historical data on a currency pair and place trades with play money just as if you were trading during that time.

This varies depending on what exchange rate converter you are using, but they generally gather the rates used by banks when trading among themselves or their clients with large balances. Foreign Exchange Reserves

Is The USA Going Bankrupt ?

Iceland clearly went bankrupt in a more traditional sense. While the USA is bankrupt, China is the richest country in the world. On the CIA World Fact-book chart for "Reserves of Foreign Exchange in Gold" you'll see China up at the top again, with huge foreign exchange and gold reserves. Most of China's foreign exchange reserves are held in US dollars.

On this chart, the USA is at number 19, with foreign exchange and gold reserves just above Switzerland's (but notes the USA has smaller reserves than Malaysia, Libya, Mexico and Iran). So compare the figures - the USA's negative current account balance with the USA's reserves - what is actually there backing the dollar - and you'll see a huge discrepancy. I've explained in other articles why I foresee the continuing stealth devaluation of the US dollar rather than an outright dollar collapse.

Many people believe the Euro will break up. If you are going to keep reserves in fiat currency, and you want to avoid the dollar, the Euro is the logical choice. Sterling might recover in the short term.

Effect of Increased Foreign Exchange Reserves on Inflation in China

Both methods have proven the long-term and stable relationships between foreign-exchange reserves and inflation. The increase in foreign-exchange reserves of a country will lead to the increase in base money running. China's foreign exchange-reserves have increased significantly the effect of inflation from results of empirical test.

The pulling effect of foreign exchange-reserves on inflation is 0. The increase of foreign-exchange reserves has a positive impact on the second period in the short-term. And the effect of foreign-exchange reserves on inflation is increasing gradually.

Funding United States Stimulus Package With Chinese Investment in US Treasuries

With China sitting on a growing mountain of foreign exchange reserves no one can miss the significance of the secretary of state for the United States, Hilary Clinton's decision to make China the center piece of her four nation Asian tour. By continuing to support America's treasury instruments, the Chinese are recognizing our interconnections".

China already holds $700 billion worth of U.S. Treasury Securities. China entered the current global economic crisis with ample savings, but also with some significant economic weakness. China's holdings of treasuries, account for over forty five percent of its foreign exchange reserves which could prove risky. Some critics argue that China needs to diversify its foreign exchange reserves.

The Euro Keeps Falling

China, in particular, has emerged the strong winner. For example, China's State Administration of Foreign Exchange clarified in May 2010 that Europe will continue as the key investment markets for China's foreign-exchange reserves of nearly $2.5 trillion. Currently, 1 Chinese Yuan (or Renminbi) trades at 0.1183 Euro, or 1 Euro = 8.453 Renminbi.

As the China Investment Corporation (CIC) states aptly, the turmoil in Europe had only had a limited impact on its investment decision-making process.
